Our History
The Blockhouse Bay Community Centre has been a part of Blockhouse Bay for almost 100 years.

In 1903, the Presbyterian St Andrews Hall stood tall within the streets of Blockhouse Bay and was used for church services and as a venue for local events. Not only was the Church used as a school from 1904 – 1909 it was also used as a joinery factory and boxing school during the 1920’s. Unfortunately, in 1928, the Church was destroyed by a fire.

Jump forward to 1930, the hall was rebuilt and named, The Tin Shed. The community continued to use it for church services, concerts, functions and more. 8 years later, it sold to the Blockhouse Bay Improvement Association.

In 1977 the Tin Shed was torn down to make way for what we now know as the Blockhouse Bay Community Centre and was owned and operated by the Association until 2007 when Auckland Council took on the ownership.

Today, the building is still owned by Auckland Council however it is run by the Blockhouse Bay Community Centre Incorporated Society.
